One Patriotic, Conservative, God-fearing American Male’s Opinion
Best if read aloud, at full volume, in a pompous and preacherly voice.
Note: The following was written, as a satire, in response to the 2009 California Supreme Court's Decision to Uphold the voter approved, Proposition 8.
Though it is written solely as satire, it is frightening when you realize that this, in fact, reflects MANY American’s actual belief.
Brothers and Sisters! Thank God! At last, the high court of California is allowing themselves to be guided by Biblical principles and Righteous thinking. They are to be applauded, by every God fearing American, for their decision to uphold Proposition 8, as well they should. How can one justify calling a minority group’s, perverted desire, a Civil Right, when it clearly flies in the face of what the Bible demands!?
Only when we are, as a nation, fully aligned with the will of God--as outlined in His Word--can we expect His, wide-reaching, Blessing. Only by following His will, can we expect Him to STRIKE DOWN our enemies, and make us the Great Nation we are meant to be--the Christian Nation that was the vision of our Founding Fathers!
Granted, we must continue to present ourselves in a way that does not appear to be religiously motivated, for there are those who take the idea of the Separation of Church and State to a literal extreme. But we are, after all, first and foremost a "Nation under GOD" and we know that it is GOD we are honoring by standing up for these Biblical mandates.
This is what it means to "put on the whole armor of God and to fight the good fight." And though there is much work to be done, we can now, with the help of this Supreme Court, stand up for Biblical truths, without fear! Now, we can turn back the clock and recapture, by way of the popular vote, these Biblical mandates. So much precious ground has been lost through miss guided legislation, ignoring the righteous voice of the people!
Perhaps now, we can begin to rectify the travesty and dire consequences of giving equal rights to women. The Bible states, clearly, that women should be subservient, to honor and obey their husbands. And though the good citizens of the early 1900's fought long and hard to prevent woman from being allowed to vote, THE COURTS, against the will of the people, gave this right to women --making it a part of the constitution, without putting it to the people to vote on!! I am quite certain that women would never have been given the right to vote, had the government done the right thing and let the people (ie men) vote on it!
How dare the Government go against God and the will of the people, by giving so much of the power (that God gave to men) to women?! This is a Democracy, is it not-- “of the people, by the people and for the people“!! And when these sacred words were penned, "the people" did NOT include the weaker sex. The PEOPLE meant God's chosen--MEN--Men who had the right to vote, to own property and the ability to run a Country, while expecting woman to obey them and know their place.
By giving women the right to own property, the government undermined man’s God given right to be the stewards of the land. By allowing the Women's Right's Movement, our nation has encouraged women to rebel against their husbands and even abandon marriage for living in sin instead--another Biblical prohibition.
Additionally, the Bible clearly states that the Black man was cursed by God and must be kept in his place-- just like women. Here again this country abandoned God’s will by willfully, giving the same rights to the black man, as to God’s chosen people. Again, you know as well as I do, that if this had been put before the people, the black man would never have gotten the right to vote, or marry our white women, either!
Certainly God loves all His children, but some have a higher purpose than others. It is ordained by God that those who are subservient should know their place and stay in it. It is no wonder there is unrest in this country. It is because we have not kept those cursed of God (ie women and blacks) separate and subservient.
One more point: Let’s be clear. Religious Freedom is the freedom to teach and preach and make laws that are aligned with the Bible. The Religion spoken of here is Christianity, People! The Bible clearly states that "there is NO OTHER name given among men, whereby we must be saved"! If we don't accept Jesus as our Savior we are lost. How can we, in these dangerous times, where Foreign Religions threaten us with terrorism, continue to ignore God's demand that we follow Christ? How can we expect God's protections when we allow heathen religions to thrive in our midst!
We are a Christian Nation! So far, those of us who believe in righteous Biblical principles, are still in the majority, as proven by our victory against homosexuality. But dear Brothers and Sisters, this will not be the case for long! It is time we stand up and fight the good fight, like we did against this abomination, and vote down these other, Biblically unfounded and anti-god, ideas.
It is time to put forward an amendment to the Constitution that would allow us to show that the “will of the people” is all powerful and the PEOPLE’S will must be adhered to. No one deserves rights that cannot be agreed upon by the majority! And yes, it will be a harder battle, what with the black population growing and women adding their Siren-voice, as well as our country being overrun by false religions. But there is a good chance that Patriotic, Conservative, God-fearing American men and their God and husband fearing wives, are still in the majority!
Now that the courts have upheld our right to bring an end to one minority's rights, with our vote, we can bring an end to these other, spurious “rights“. I say we can and must!! We must do this to keep this country safe and pure. And if we move quickly, we will prevail! ARE YOU WITH ME!?
A final word. To other, so-called minority groups: I would warn all of you out there, who think they are above losing their rights! If we can vote to take away the homo's rights, we can vote to take away yours! So don't get comfortable and don’t be too cocky!
Be warned, Brothers and Sisters, and keep your nose clean!
Disclaimer: The author of this satire disavows any agreement with the religious dogma that prompts this kind of BS and is quite sure the historical Jesus would be horrified by how completely he is misrepresented by many of his ardent and ignorant follows.
Acknowledgement: Without a doubt, there are also many followers of Christ, who are equally horrified by the injustices done in the name of Christianity.
POSTSCRIPT
Bottom line: There are two very different discussions that have gotten all muddled up together.
1) The discussion about the rightness or wrongness of being gay, and whether the Bible condemns it, accepts it or looks the other way.
2) The discussion about the civil rights of LGBT folk, i.e. the right to marry the consenting adult of your choice, etc. etc. This is a completely different conversation/ discussion.
Confusion, conflict, animosity and ignorance abound when these two conversation co-mingle! And given our country’s very clear stand on the separation of church and state, these two, completely disparate conversations, should not be confused.
A person has a right to believe what they will about the Biblical teaching on homosexuality--whether it is sanctioned or condemned--but these religious beliefs, whether pro or con, have NO PLACE in a conversation about the civil rights of LGBT citizens. Every citizen deserves to be protected by the constitution and afforded the same and equal rights under the secular law of the land--whether gay or straight, black or white, male or female, Christian or Atheist. And what the Bible has to say on any of these topics, one way or another, is mute and should not be entertained! The Bible is not the rule of law in this land, the Constitution is.
What I want to say to the religious right who would use their belief to deny me, my rights: Believe what you will in your churches. Live you life by the letter of the Bible. (And we won’t even get into the hypocrisy displayed around your failure to love thy neighbor as thyself and yet having no problem loving thy neighbor’s wife, etc.) More power to you. But don’t imagine your “power” includes denying civil rights to a minority group, based on your religious convection and fear.
Hummm. Yes, I guess that got a little personal. Sorry about that. And really, I am aware that there are large numbers of Christians who do follow the teachings of Christ. You all can ignore the little bet of rage there. It wasn’t meant for you.
